Add some Blue to your BBQ!

The Fourth is tomorrow and for those of you grilling at home or heading over to a BBQ with friends or family, I have a recipe to share with you!

My blueberry relish is a sweet and delicious addition to any BBQ!  It is the perfect condiment for all meats: chicken, lamb, beef or pork…and even tofu!  No matter what you are grilling up, add this topping!    I highly recommend it paired with sour cream, that’s what I did a couple of years ago when I made this creation for some Fourth of July lamb tacos!   Your food will be blue, but you won’t be! MMMM!

The Food Pervert’s Blueberry Relish

*Fresh Blueberries

*Fresh Basil Leaves

*Lime Juice

*Ground Pepper

In a large bowl add berries (the amount is up to you) and chop up the basil into fine strips, then start mashing them together with a wooden spoon or any other mashing device.  You want the insides to explode and spill out of the skin!

Next, depending on how many berries you mashed add just enough lime juice to lightly tart up your mixture!  I would say 1 tablespoon.

Stir the juice throughout the berries and basil.

Add salt, pepper, and cinnamon.  Don’t go crazy!  Taste as you go, again this depends on how many berries you are working with!  These flavors are for the enhancement of flavor, not meant to take over the berries!

Chill in the fridge for at least an hour before grill time!

There you have it, a perfectly easy and tasty relish to bring or make for your home party!

Happy Fourth to all you Food Pervs!

I used this recipe at my BBQ this past weekend. It was by far the highlight of the meal! What a great side.
